Pectus Biography: Maggie’s Journey

Our 13-year-old daughter Maggie was diagnosed at 3 years old with pectus excavatum. Dr. Barry LoSasso performed the Nuss Procedure on Maggie on June 12, 2020.

This is an extensive surgery that entails placing a bar in her chest separating her pectus from laying on her heart and allowing an opening so her heart can perform at full capacity. Our daughter had a severe case, and our family is incredibly grateful that she was in Dr. LoSasso’s hands.

To have such a highly skilled physician available in your community is a blessing. His skills, mannerisms, and gentleness with children are exemplary. Maggie’s surgery went remarkably well and her recovery at Valley Health was outstanding. Specifically, the nurses, physicians, PT, pain management, food service, and staff that kept our room clean at all times were fantastic! Each and every person that tended to our daughter was absolutely amazing!

The nurses in PICU became family to us during our 4-day visit. Because COVID was still in effect there were strict guidelines for the family that were critical that we follow. The nurses were so kind, full of love and support, understanding, and attentive that we could not have asked for a better experience.
